Kingsmeadow Sixth Form offers a vibrant and successful provision, with excellent opportunities for academic study and enrichment activities. We work in partnership with Sunderland College to provide more choice, opportunity and support for our students. There are currently 35 A-Level subjects to choose from and a range of BTEC courses at both level 3 and level 2, including English and maths GCSE and Functional Skills. Kingsmeadow Football Academy also enables us to provide a sports offer second to none.
The progress and development of each student is carefully monitored by their tutors and the pastoral team throughout Years 12 and 13, and subject staff report to parents via our online reporting system and during parental consultation days.
At Kingsmeadow, high expectations are placed upon our students, with regard to both work and behaviour. We trust them to respect the increased freedom they will experience throughout their A-level studies and demonstrate high levels of self-reliance and maturity.
Life as a sixth form student begins with an induction week, during which time students focus on study and employability skills, communication, independent learning and standards. This is an opportunity for students to alleviate any anxieties they may have about sixth form and begin to organise themselves for the increased demands of post-16 study.
Kingsmeadow is open to any post-16 student, including external applicants, provided that they are committed to their studies and meet the requirements of individual courses.
Students will be largely based in the sixth form centre, with some lessons taught in the main school. The sixth form centre includes a common room and kitchen, alongside a study area and computer suite. This allows students to have access to modern facilities for both study and socialising.
We believe we can offer an outstanding sixth form experience, which will be relevant for many Year 11 students following the completion of their GCSEs.
