Qualification: new course title to be confirmed during 2018
This is an option subject from 2016 and exact content will be confirmed soon. The following content shows what the course is likely to include. It is made up of 40% exam and 60% project work.
Year 9 – Year 11
Unit 1 – Skills Demonstration: Mini Projects. Worth 30% of the grade and lasts for around 36 hours of supervised time.
Learners undertake a number of mini projects that will allow them to be assessed against a number of practical skills and the knowledge associated with these.
Unit 2 – Extended Making Project: Showcase of Skills. Worth 30% of the grade and lasts for around 36 hours of supervised time.
Learners will produce a made textiles product in addition to a small portfolio to evidence the planning and development and testing and evaluation stages.
Unit 3 – Exam: Fundamentals of Fashion and Textiles. Worth 40% of the grade and lasts for 1 hour 30 minutes.
- Section A: 20 multiple choice questions (20 marks)
- Section B: Mixture of short answer and extended response questions (76 marks)
Learners will be assessed on their knowledge and understanding of the following:
- Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacture (CAD/CAM)
- Commercial practice
- Materials and components
- Processes and techniques
- Tools and equipment
- Industrial processes
- Career opportunities
Students will be graded at Level 2 Pass, Merit, or Distinction or Distinction *; or Level 1 Credit or Advanced Credit (TBC).
