The Year 7 1st Team came into this game after two positive weeks of training and it showed with KFA taking the lead within the first five minutes with an excellent volley from Aiden Blench. KFA continued to dominate the game with excellent football being played throughout.
Despite conceding just before half-time, KFA started the 2nd half well, creating chance after chance but were unable to take the lead. John Spence scored a second goal with an unlucky deflection at the back for KFA, allowing the centre forward through to finish.
KFA pressed hard for the last five minutes, pushing John Spence into their own half and again creating further chances.
The final whistle blew and John Spence advanced to the next round with a 2-1 win.
Despite the defeat, Academy Manager Ross McKay had this to say
“I am extremely proud of all the players involved in tonight’s game. Despite the defeat I felt we played John Spence off the park with some excellent football in all areas of the pitch. In football though you get these nights, that no matter how many shots you hit, it’s just not your night. The philosophy within the Academy of playing out from the back, exploiting the wide area and having a never say die work ethic is really evident in this group. Moving forward in the months and years to come with continued development I think we will have a great chance of achieving success”
